Huawei has officially unveiled the Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design in China, bringing a redesigned tri fold smartphone with an inward folding hinge. The new model also introduces a hardware privacy display, a new Kirin chipset and HarmonyOS 7.

The Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design features a 6.5 inch OLED LTPO cover display with Full HD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate and up to 6,500 nits of peak brightness.

When unfolded, the device reveals a 10.2 inch OLED LTPO display with a 90Hz refresh rate, 3K resolution and a 12.8:9 aspect ratio. The internal screen also features a hardware privacy filter similar to the technology used on the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra.

Powering the Mate XT 2 is Huawei’s new Kirin 9050 Pro chipset, which the company claims delivers more than 42% higher performance than the chip found in the Mate XTs. Huawei has also upgraded the processor’s NPU and GPU.

The rear camera system has been moved to the center panel, unlike the previous Mate XTs and Mate XT models. It consists of a 50MP RYYB LOFIC main camera with a 1/1.28 inch sensor, a 50MP RYYB periscope telephoto camera offering 3.5x optical zoom and a 40MP RYYB ultrawide camera. Huawei has also added its third generation Red Maple color sensor.

For selfies, the Mate XT 2 features an 8MP camera on both the cover display and the internal screen.

The device packs a 5,600mAh battery with support for 66W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. Huawei has also introduced a new G shaped hinge, while the phone carries IP58 and IP59 ratings for dust and water resistance. The cover screen uses basalt glass for improved protection against drops and scratches.

Other features include a side mounted fingerprint scanner and touch sensitive buttons on both sides that can also be used for ECG recording. The Mate XT 2 measures just 3.5mm thick when fully unfolded and 12.3mm when folded, while weighing 299g. It also supports the M Pen 3 stylus.

Connectivity includes 5G, dual 4G, Wi Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0 LE, GPS, satellite communication, NFC and a USB 3.1 Type C port.

The Huawei Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design comes in Black, Purple and White. It is available with up to 16GB of RAM and 2TB of storage. Pricing starts at CNY 19,999, around $2,980, for the 16GB/256GB model and reaches CNY 29,999, around $4,470, for the 16GB/2TB special edition, which includes a stylus.
