Motorola’s upcoming 2027 flagship smartphones will support GrapheneOS, giving users the option to replace the company’s standard Android software with the security focused operating system.

GrapheneOS developers have confirmed that they are working with Motorola to bring official support to several upcoming devices. The phones will initially ship with Motorola’s regular Android software, but users will be able to install GrapheneOS later.

The support will begin with a conventional flagship smartphone that is expected to succeed the Motorola Signature. The next generation Razr Fold and Razr Ultra will reportedly receive support afterward.

All of these devices are expected to use flagship Snapdragon processors. According to GrapheneOS developers, Qualcomm’s high end chipsets offer stronger CPU and GPU performance while also providing more of the isolated hardware components required by the operating system.

The upcoming Motorola phones are expected to meet or exceed GrapheneOS’ official hardware requirements, including support for seven years of proper software updates.

Interestingly, Motorola itself is reportedly handling a significant portion of the work required to port GrapheneOS to its upcoming devices. This could make the partnership one of the most notable collaborations between a major smartphone manufacturer and the privacy focused Android project.
