The iPhone Air is currently losing resale value faster than any recent iPhone, with a drop between 40.3% and 47.7% within just ten weeks of launch depending on storage size. The average depreciation is around 44.3%, which makes it the worst-performing Apple smartphone in early value retention in several years. Meanwhile, the iPhone 17 series performed noticeably better in the same period, averaging about 34.6% depreciation, with the 17 Pro Max 256GB variant dropping only 26.1%.
Analysts suggest several possible reasons for the sharp collapse: lower demand, weaker market reception, and the possibility that buyers see the Air as less compelling than other iPhones available at similar price points. The decline hasn’t stabilised either, meaning the value could continue to fall as the months go by.
For anyone who plans to resell or trade in their device, the iPhone Air is currently a poor investment compared to the iPhone 17 lineup. Buyers looking for better long-term value retention will get more stability from the main flagship models.
