For the first time ever, iPhone 17 Pro will be used as part of the official broadcast setup for the championship match of MLS Cup 2025.

Four iPhone 17 Pro units will be deployed at different vantage points inside Chase Stadium — one behind the goal as a high end-zone camera, one focused on the crowd in the stands (“supporter cam”), and two roaming the sidelines to capture coaches’ reactions and fans.

Whenever footage from an iPhone is broadcast, it will carry a small “Shot on iPhone” overlay, indicating that the angle comes directly from the smartphone.

This move is the result of months of testing by the league and production partners, evaluating image clarity, latency, wireless stability, and synchronization with the rest of the camera array — and the iPhone emerged as “broadcast-ready.”

With more than 30 cameras already part of the production, the iPhones complement — not replace — traditional broadcast cameras. Their compact size and flexibility allow coverage from angles that are impractical for bulky broadcast rigs, offering fans extra perspectives on the action and atmosphere.
