Apple launched the iPad mini (2026) last week with an OLED display and the A20 Pro chip. A new report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says Apple is planning a broader iPad refresh in the first half of 2027.

Three models are reportedly in line for updates: a new entry-level iPad, an iPad Air with an OLED display, and a faster iPad Pro with vapor chamber cooling. Gurman also says Apple is not expected to launch any new iPads in the second half of 2027.

The current iPad (2025) arrived in March last year with an A16 chip and 6GB of RAM, which is not enough for Apple Intelligence. Its successor is expected to address that limitation. Apple’s own code has reportedly revealed its key specifications, including an A19 chip, 8GB of RAM, the company’s N1 networking chip with Wi-Fi 7 support, and a C1X modem for sub-6GHz 5G on cellular models.

The iPad Air 11 (2026) and iPad Air 13 (2026) launched in March with the M4 chip and 12GB of RAM, but both still use 60Hz LCD displays. Their successors are expected to switch to OLED, in line with an earlier report that Samsung Display will supply the panels. The chipset has not been mentioned, though the M5 is a possibility.

The iPad Pro 13 and iPad Pro 11 have been available since October 2025, powered by the M5 chip. Vapor chamber cooling in the next generation could help the tablets maintain high performance for longer. The same source reported in October 2025 that the 2027 iPad Pro would feature both a vapor chamber and the M6 chip. Apple has since brought the M6 to the 14-inch MacBook Pro and iMac, making its arrival in the next iPad Pro a possibility as well.
