Sony has announced the LYTIA 720, a new 50MP stacked CMOS image sensor designed for mobile devices. The sensor measures 1/1.56 inches and features a pixel size of 1.0μm, with Sony introducing new imaging technologies aimed at improving low-light photography and dynamic range.

The LYTIA 720 uses Sony’s proprietary Ultra High Conversion Gain (UHCG) circuit technology, which is claimed to reduce random noise by up to 50% compared with the LYTIA 700. This improvement is expected to deliver clearer images in low-light conditions.

Sony has also combined UHCG technology with Hybrid Frame-HDR (HF-HDR) to achieve a dynamic range of 100dB. The sensor supports 4K HDR video recording at 60 frames per second using single-frame HDR technology.

According to Sony, these technologies allow the LYTIA 720 to capture higher-quality still images with improved detail in shadow areas while reducing overexposed highlights in high-contrast scenes. The company also claims the resulting images will more closely resemble what the human eye sees.

Sony has confirmed that mass-production shipments of the LYTIA 720 will begin early next month.
