Apple Reportedly Increases iPhone Duo Production Orders by 44%

The iPhone Duo has attracted strong demand since preorders opened last week, with delivery estimates extending to January within hours. In response, Apple has reportedly increased its shipment target for the foldable phone by 44%.

According to supply chain sources, Foxconn and component suppliers have received instructions to increase production from 9.7 million units to 14 million during the first 12 months.

In July, Nikkei Asia reported that Apple had asked suppliers to prepare around 10 million foldable iPhones for 2026. However, analyst Jeff Pu said in September that production this year would reach only 6 million units due to constraints in hinge manufacturing.

The latest target also faces production challenges. Actual output will depend on assembly progress, following earlier reports of manufacturing difficulties involving assembly, displays, and hinges. As a result, larger orders from Apple will not automatically mean more devices will reach stores, although delivery estimates have improved for many customers who preordered.

The report also forecasts that global foldable phone shipments will grow by 25.7% in 2026 and 59.1% in 2027, compared with 7.4% growth in 2025. Apple’s entry into the foldable market is expected to contribute to this expansion.

The iPhone Duo goes on sale on October 23, starting at $1,999 in the US. Apple has warned that launch day walk in stock will be limited and has restricted purchases to two units per customer.
