Bose Corporation is acquiring Skullcandy, bringing the lifestyle audio brand under its Premium Consumer Audio lineup. According to a joint announcement, the companies plan to combine Bose’s audio expertise with Skullcandy’s design and community connections to develop future products.

Skullcandy will continue operating as a separate brand and remain based in Park City, Utah. Bose CEO Lila Snyder said the acquisition would allow the company to make long term investments, develop new products and experiences, and reach more consumers worldwide.
Before the acquisition, Bose and Skullcandy had a multiyear partnership under which Skullcandy earbuds and headphones used licensed Sound by Bose technology. However, Bose has not disclosed the financial terms of the deal.

Skullcandy CEO Brian Garofalow described the acquisition as a positive development for the brand and its customers. Founded in Park City more than 20 years ago, Skullcandy aims to use Bose’s audio technology and expertise to improve its products and expand its reach.
