Amazon has introduced two new personal AI devices, the Bee Frontier wearable and Bee Eclipse phone attachment. Both are designed to listen to conversations and turn them into summaries, reminders, to do lists and useful insights through the Bee app.

The Bee Frontier can be worn on a soft silicone wristband or clipped onto clothing. It comes in Lavender, Sage and Onyx, features dual microphones with noise filtering, offers IP67 water resistance and delivers up to seven days of battery life. It charges through USB C and is available now for $74.99.

The Bee Eclipse is a credit card sized device measuring 4.6mm thick and weighing 48.9g. It attaches magnetically to the back of a phone and offers more than 21 days of battery life. Its four MEMS microphones and vibration microphone can capture both sides of phone calls as well as face to face conversations. It will be available soon in Silver, Midnight, Honey and Blush, starting at $99.99.

Both devices use the same software to generate conversation summaries accessible through the Bee mobile app or a new desktop app. Users can choose templates for different situations, including lectures and brainstorming sessions.

A Bee Pro subscription costs $11.99 per month or $99 annually, with the first 30 days included free. Subscribers can connect Gmail, Google Calendar, Microsoft Outlook, Apple HealthKit and Photos. They can also use Alexa+ to request hands free summaries and receive Amazon shopping suggestions based on products mentioned in conversations.

Privacy is a major consideration for devices that record conversations. Amazon says both products use Bee Private Compute to process audio in real time before deleting it without storing the recordings. Transcripts are encrypted using keys created and controlled by the user’s device, and Amazon says it cannot access the data unless the user chooses to share it.

Both devices feature a physical button to turn recording on or off, alongside a visible status LED. Users can configure the Frontier to switch off after a period of silence and delete transcripts and summaries whenever they wish.

However, recording conversations involving other people raises consent concerns. Amazon’s Bee Eclipse listing warns that recording laws vary across US states and other countries. Users are responsible for informing people and obtaining permission where required, as the devices cannot determine whether everyone has consented.
