Honor has officially unveiled the Magic9 and Magic9 Super Edition in China, alongside the Magic9 Pro Max. The Magic9 is a compact flagship with a 6.37 inch display and 8,000mAh battery, while the Magic9 Super Edition features a larger 6.81 inch screen, an 11,000mAh battery and an active cooling fan spinning at 30,000rpm.
The Honor Magic9 features a 6.37 inch OLED display with a 1,236 x 2,664 resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. It supports 10 bit colors, HDR and Dolby Vision, with a peak global brightness of 2,000 nits. The panel uses 3,840Hz high frequency PWM and can reach as low as 1 nit.
The phone packs an 8,000mAh battery, 1,000mAh more than its predecessor, with 80W wired charging, 27W reverse wired charging and 50W wireless charging.
For photography, the Magic9 has a 200MP main camera with a 1/1.4 inch sensor, f/1.9 aperture and CIPA 7.5 stabilization. It is joined by a 200MP 1/1.56 inch periscope camera with a dual prism design and CIPA 7.5 stabilization, plus a 50MP ultrawide camera. The front camera uses a 55MP square 1:1 sensor.
Honor worked with ARRI on the Magic9 series and also included its H1 imaging chip, which delivers 18.8 TOPS per watt of AI performance for noise reduction and image processing. The Magic9 also supports the G200 teleconverter.
The phone uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset with 12GB or 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB to 1TB of storage. It also features Honor’s Yoyo AI with improvements for calendars, recordings, notes and file management. The phone supports integration with Apple’s ecosystem, including Apple Watch, and offers one tap file transfers when switching from Apple, Oppo, vivo or Xiaomi devices.
The Magic9 has IP68, IP69 and IP69K protection and comes in Black, Olive Green, Yellow and White. It is currently available for pre order in China, starting at CNY 5,000 ($745) for the 12GB/256GB model.
Honor Magic9 Super Edition
The Magic9 Super Edition features a 6.81 inch LTPS display with a 1,280 x 2,788 resolution, 120Hz refresh rate and 10 bit colors with HDR support. It reaches 2,000 nits peak global brightness, although it does not support Dolby Vision.
Its biggest feature is the 11,000mAh battery, which is larger than the 8,800mAh unit in the Pro Max. It supports 80W wired charging, 27W reverse wired charging and 50W wireless charging, including wireless power sharing.
Despite the large battery, the phone is 8.1mm thick and weighs 227g. It uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 with 12GB or 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB to 1TB of storage.
Honor has equipped the Super Edition with a large vapor chamber and an active cooling fan capable of dissipating up to 12W of heat. The fan spins at 30,000rpm and uses a ducted design that improves heat dissipation by 30%.
The rear camera setup consists of a 200MP main sensor, a 50MP 3x telephoto camera and a 12MP ultrawide camera with autofocus. The front camera uses a 50MP rectangular sensor. The rear camera can record 4K video at 120fps, while the front camera supports 4K at 60fps.
The Super Edition also includes the Honor H1 imaging chip and supports the G200 teleconverter. It comes in Black, Olive Green, Yellow and White.
The Honor Magic9 Super Edition is available for pre order in China, starting at CNY 4,500 ($670) for the 12GB/256GB model.
