Apple is giving owners of older compatible iPhones another year of free access to its satellite features. A footnote in the iPhone 18 Pro press release revealed that devices dating back to the 2022 iPhone 14 series will continue to receive access to several satellite services at no cost for at least another year.

The extended features include Emergency SOS via satellite, Messages via satellite, Find My via satellite and Roadside Assistance via satellite. The devices must have been activated before September 9, 2026 to qualify for the extension.

This marks the third time Apple has extended free satellite access for the iPhone 14 series. iPhone 15 series users received their first extension last year following the launch of the iPhone 17 series, while the latest extension is the first for the iPhone 16 generation.

Apple continues to describe these satellite features as a “free trial”, but the company has not provided any official details about how much the services will cost once the trial period eventually ends.
