Exynos 2700 reportedly outperforms Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro in internal tests

Samsung’s upcoming Exynos 2700 is reportedly performing better than Qualcomm’s next generation Snapdragon flagship chips in internal testing, according to anonymous industry insiders.

Qualcomm has confirmed that its next generation lineup will include two Elite processors, currently expected to be called the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro. These are separate from the standard Snapdragon 8 Gen 6, while Qualcomm has also confirmed that its upcoming flagship chips will become more expensive.

According to the reported tests, the Exynos 2700 achieved a 9.5% higher Geekbench 6.5 multi core score than the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro and 19% more than the standard Elite version.

The Samsung chipset also reportedly came out 5% ahead of Qualcomm’s Pro chip in a GPU benchmark, although the specific test used was not revealed. Under a 2.5W power limit, however, the Exynos 2700 reportedly extended its lead, outperforming the Elite Pro by 22% and the standard Elite by 24%.

Power efficiency also appears to be a major focus for Samsung. In simulated real world smartphone usage, the Exynos 2700 reportedly consumed 161mA of current, compared with 185mA for the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro.

AI performance was also tested using Llama 3.1 8B. The Exynos 2700 reportedly generated responses 18% faster than its Snapdragon competitor.

Cost could provide Samsung with another reason to use its own chipset. Samsung’s LSI division and MX smartphone division operate separately, but MX can reportedly source flagship Exynos processors more cheaply than comparable Snapdragon chips.

If the reported performance figures prove accurate, Samsung could use the Exynos 2700 in Galaxy S27 models sold in markets such as Korea and Europe. The chipset could also find its way into some of Samsung’s planned foldable devices next year.

The Exynos 2700 is reportedly being manufactured using Samsung’s SF2P process, the company’s second generation 2nm Gate All Around technology. Strong performance from the chip could also help Samsung attract more customers to its semiconductor manufacturing business.
