Honor’s Robot Phone has quickly become one of the most unusual smartphones on the market thanks to its built in gimbal camera. However, the moving camera system also means that dropping the phone while the gimbal is extended could result in an expensive repair.

According to repair prices published on Honor’s official Chinese website, replacing the entire gimbal camera assembly will cost CNY 3,079, or around $457. The telephoto camera costs CNY 879, approximately $130, while replacing the ultrawide camera costs CNY 199, or about $29.

The significant difference in repair costs is largely due to the complex gimbal assembly, which contains numerous moving components.

Other replacement parts are considerably cheaper. A new display costs CNY 1,379, around $205, while replacing the battery costs CNY 319, or roughly $47.

The most expensive component to replace is actually the motherboard. For the 12GB RAM and 512GB storage model, a replacement costs CNY 4,599, approximately $684. The motherboard for the 16GB RAM and 1TB version costs an eye watering CNY 6,599, or around $981.

Those repair costs are particularly significant when compared with the price of the phone itself. The 12GB/512GB model costs CNY 9,999, around $1,487, while the 16GB/1TB version costs CNY 12,999, approximately $1,933.

With such an expensive gimbal assembly, Robot Phone owners may want to be particularly careful when using the camera while it is extended.
