Spotify introduces emoji reactions for collaborative playlists

Spotify is rolling out a new feature designed to make collaborative playlists more interactive. Users can now react to songs added by other contributors using a selection of emojis, including ❤️, 😂, 👍, 🎧, 🔥, and 🥹.

Whenever someone reacts to a track, the person who originally added that song will receive a notification through Spotify Messages, allowing them to see how fellow contributors feel about their choice.

The reactions remain private within the playlist group. Only the playlist owner and approved contributors can view or use emoji reactions, keeping the experience limited to those actively involved in building the playlist.

Spotify has also included controls for playlist owners. Those who do not want reactions can disable the feature entirely. For collaborative playlists with fewer than ten editors, emoji reactions are switched on automatically, while larger playlists require the owner to enable them manually.

The addition is part of Spotify’s broader effort to expand playlist functionality. In recent months, the platform has introduced tools that allow users to import playlists from rival services, create playlists with AI assistance, and add custom transitions between tracks.

Beyond music playlists, Spotify has continued investing in podcasts, audiobooks, and fitness-focused content as it works to make the platform a bigger part of users’ everyday activities.
