Google may phase out Fitbit branding as part of a broader health ecosystem shift

Google could be preparing a major shake-up to its wearable and health ecosystem, with growing signs pointing toward a gradual move away from the Fitbit name—at least on the software side.

While there’s no official confirmation yet, recent findings from app store listings and Play Store references suggest a transition toward a new “Google Health” identity. In some European markets, users have spotted mentions of “Google Health Premium” tied to purchases of devices like the Pixel Watch and Fitbit wearables.

This has fueled speculation that Google may consolidate Fitbit’s software services under a unified Google Health platform. A leaked logo—featuring a stylized heart in Google’s signature gradient—adds weight to the theory of an ongoing rebrand.

Interestingly, listings on the Apple App Store have also shown “Google Health Premium” subscription options with pricing similar to existing Fitbit Premium plans. Although many of these early listings have since been removed, they hint that the subscription model will remain, even if the branding changes.

That said, the Fitbit name might not disappear entirely. Current reports suggest that upcoming hardware—such as a new display-less fitness tracker—could still carry Fitbit branding, possibly under names like “Google Fitbit Air.” This indicates that while software may shift toward Google Health, Fitbit could continue to exist as a hardware-focused identity.

For now, it appears Google is aiming to unify its health services while preserving some of Fitbit’s legacy—though how far this rebranding will go remains to be seen.
