Samsung prepares to phase out LPDDR4 as it shifts focus to faster LPDDR5 memory

Samsung is reportedly planning to retire its older LPDDR4 and LPDDR4X RAM, signaling a major transition toward newer and faster memory technology.

According to industry sources, the company has already begun accepting final orders for LPDDR4-based chips, with production expected to continue through 2026 to meet existing demand. After that, Samsung is likely to shut down those lines entirely.

The next step will involve converting its current manufacturing facilities to produce LPDDR5 memory, with the transition expected to begin in early 2027. This move aligns with broader industry trends, as demand for faster and more efficient memory continues to rise.

For Samsung, the shift is also a strategic one. With the DRAM market entering a new growth phase, focusing on LPDDR5 could help boost revenue as prices climb and newer technologies take center stage.

Consumers stand to benefit as well. Once LPDDR4 is fully phased out, even budget and mid-range smartphones are expected to adopt LPDDR5, bringing significantly faster performance—up to 50% improvements—across a wider range of devices.
