Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra May Gain Full Linux Terminal Support

The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra could introduce a niche but powerful feature that will appeal to developers and advanced users: full Linux terminal support. While most users may never use it, this would mark an important step forward for Samsung’s software capabilities.

Leaked system logs spotted by Android Authority reveal references to the Android Virtualization Framework (AVF) on the Galaxy S26 Ultra. AVF is essential for running a complete Linux environment on Android and was notably missing from the Galaxy S25 Ultra. Its presence strongly suggests that Samsung is preparing proper Linux terminal functionality for its next Ultra flagship.

The S26 Ultra is expected to launch with One UI 8.5, based on Android 16 QPR2. This is significant because Android 16’s second quarterly release is where Google officially introduced the Linux Terminal feature. With both the required Android version and AVF support in place, the S26 Ultra appears technically ready to run a full Linux terminal at launch.

In real-world use, this feature would allow access to Linux-based tools and applications that usually require a PC. Developers could run command-line utilities, test software, or manage development workflows directly on their phone, while enthusiasts gain deeper system-level flexibility.

Although this remains a niche addition, it would help Samsung catch up to Google’s Pixel devices in developer-focused features and further position the Galaxy S26 Ultra as a true power-user smartphone.
