Gemini Expands to Walking and Cycling Directions in Google Maps

Google is expanding Gemini’s presence in Google Maps beyond driving navigation. After launching the chatbot for drivers in November, the company has now enabled Gemini for walking and cycling directions as well.

With this update, users can treat Gemini as a personal tour guide while on foot or on a bike. You can ask contextual questions such as which neighborhood you’re in, or request recommendations for top‑rated restaurants and places to visit along the way.

Google says Gemini pulls from Maps’ up‑to‑date and comprehensive real‑world data to suggest relevant options directly along your route. For cyclists, the hands‑free experience is especially useful, allowing Gemini to provide ETA updates, remind you of upcoming meetings, and even send messages on your behalf.

The new Gemini functionality is rolling out globally on both Android and iOS, in all regions where Gemini is available. As with most Google feature rollouts, availability may vary and could take some time to reach all users.
