Apple may have hinted at an upcoming iPad mini through a new listing on its French regulatory website. The listing reveals a Smart Folio accessory with model number A3632, which does not match any iPad mini case previously sold by the company.

The listing appeared recently alongside accessories for the iPhone 18 Pro that were added in September. Although the document is dated September 9, it remains unclear exactly when it was published online.

The listing does not reveal specifications, but it includes some interesting material figures. The new Smart Folio contains at least 3% recycled materials, down from at least 9% in the current model. It also contains at least 6,610mg of rare earth elements, compared with 3,947mg previously, potentially indicating changes to the magnets used to attach the cover to the tablet.

The iPad mini released in 2021 and the 2024 model use the same Smart Folio. The new accessory’s model number could therefore suggest that the next iPad mini will feature physical design changes that make existing cases incompatible. However, this remains speculation.

According to previous rumours, the next iPad mini will feature an OLED display and a more water resistant design. Apple is expected to announce the tablet later this month, potentially on October 27 or 28, alongside its upcoming touchscreen MacBook.
