WhatsApp is reportedly working on a redesign for its Android app, with the current development focused on the navigation bar. The update introduces a new appearance and adds another item to the navigation bar.

The current version shown in testing is still an early development build and is not expected to represent the final design. The Meta AI button also appears in two different locations in the current implementation.

The changes suggest that Meta AI will become part of the navigation bar instead of appearing as a floating button above the Compose button. The navigation bar itself is also becoming more oval shaped and transparent, giving it a design that is somewhat closer to WhatsApp’s navigation bar on iOS, although it does not use the same level of transparency.

A dark mode version will also be available. The redesigned interface was spotted in WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.26.38.10, which is currently available to beta testers.

The redesign is still in early development, so it could take several more weeks before WhatsApp considers it ready for a wider public release.
