Qualcomm has officially introduced its latest flagship mobile chipsets, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6. Both platforms are built on a 2nm process and feature Oryon CPU cores clocked at up to 5.0GHz.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 and 8 Elite Gen 6 use 64 bit Oryon CPUs alongside new Adreno GPUs and Hexagon NPUs.

Both chipsets feature two Prime cores running at up to 5.0GHz and six Performance cores reaching up to 4.0GHz. They also include 16MB of Oryon FlexCache, support up to 24GB of LPDDR5X and LPDDR6 RAM at speeds of up to 5,300MHz, and support UFS 5.0 storage.

Qualcomm claims the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 delivers a 13 percent CPU performance improvement, 37 percent better CPU power efficiency, 44 percent higher GPU performance, and 35 percent improved NPU performance compared with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.

The Extreme model also delivers a 33 percent improvement in AI performance per watt. Qualcomm’s specifications show that its Hexagon NPU has 50 percent more shared memory than the previous generation.

The standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 offers a 10 percent CPU performance improvement, 37 percent better CPU power efficiency, 35 percent higher GPU performance, and 14 percent improved NPU performance compared with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. It also provides a 20 percent improvement in AI performance per watt.

The new chipsets bring major video recording upgrades as well. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 supports 8K video recording at 60fps and 4K slow motion at 240fps. The standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 supports 8K recording at 30fps and 4K slow motion at 120fps.

The Xiaomi 18 Pro series, launching later today, will be the first smartphones to use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6. Motorola has confirmed that the Signature 27 will use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, while the OnePlus 16 is also confirmed to feature the Extreme version.
