OnePlus may reportedly skip the Indian launch of its upcoming OnePlus 16. According to a new rumor from a tipster on X, the OnePlus 16R could instead become the company’s next flagship smartphone in India, followed by new devices in the Nord and N series.

In recent years, OnePlus has released both a flagship number series model and an R series variant. The R series typically uses a less powerful chipset, fewer cameras and a larger battery compared with the standard flagship.

If the latest rumor turns out to be accurate, Indian customers could miss out on a OnePlus smartphone powered by the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chipset. Instead, the OnePlus 16R would reportedly be the company’s high end offering, potentially using the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 or the rumored non Elite Snapdragon 8 Gen 6.

The possibility comes after OnePlus recently decided to leave the European and North American markets completely. Skipping the OnePlus 16 in India would represent another potential step in a strategy that increasingly focuses on China at the high end.

There have also been previous rumors claiming that OnePlus could eventually leave the Indian market, although the company has not confirmed such plans.
