YouTube is widening the rollout of its in-app direct messaging feature, extending availability beyond its initial limited test markets. The feature, which began as an experiment in November last year in Ireland and Poland, has since expanded across parts of Europe and is now reaching additional global regions including the United States, the United Kingdom, Brazil, and Singapore.
The feature allows users to chat directly within the YouTube mobile app while also sharing content such as long-form videos, Shorts, and live streams without needing to leave the platform.

To access in-app messaging and video sharing, users must be at least 18 years old, signed into their YouTube account, and running the latest version of the YouTube app. The feature is supported on both Android and iOS devices, including iPhone and iPad.
Users are also given basic conversation controls. Messages can be unsent by long-pressing on them and selecting “Unsend,” while entire conversations can be deleted from a user’s side. Blocking other users is also supported for additional control over interactions.
YouTube says the expansion is part of its ongoing effort to improve content sharing and interaction within the platform itself, reducing the need for external messaging apps when discussing videos.
