Google has released a dedicated macOS app for its Gemini, giving Mac users a native way to access the AI assistant directly from the desktop.
The app can be launched instantly using the Option + Space shortcut, allowing users to bring up Gemini from anywhere without switching windows or opening a browser. It is designed to stay accessible across the system for quick queries and multitasking.

A key feature of the macOS version is on-screen context sharing, which lets users select an open window—such as a browser tab—and ask questions based on what is currently displayed. It also supports uploading and interacting with local files for deeper analysis.
Beyond text-based assistance, the app includes creative tools for generating images using Nano Banana and creating videos through Veo. Users can access these features via a simple “+” menu, choose the desired creation mode, and enter a prompt.
The app requires macOS 15 or later and is now available for download.
