Nintendo has unveiled a brand-new trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, and it brings some exciting confirmations for longtime fans of the franchise. The latest preview introduces two beloved characters making their official debut in the film: Yoshi and Birdo. While Yoshi’s appearance had previously surfaced through an unexpected leak on a Pillsbury cookie box last fall, this trailer marks the first time Nintendo has formally showcased the character in action. Birdo’s inclusion, however, comes as a fresh and welcome surprise, expanding the movie’s already colorful cast.

The trailer premiered during a dedicated Super Mario Galaxy Movie Direct, a short presentation that also delivered another important update. Nintendo confirmed that the film has officially entered post-production, signaling that development is progressing smoothly toward its theatrical release. Alongside this update came a small but notable scheduling change. Originally slated for an April 3 release, the movie has now been moved up by two days and is set to hit theaters on April 1.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie features a high-profile voice cast returning from the previous installment while also expanding its roster. Chris Pratt reprises his role as Mario, with Anya Taylor-Joy returning as Princess Peach and Charlie Day once again voicing Luigi. Jack Black is back as Bowser, joined by Keegan-Michael Key as Toad. The cast also includes Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr., Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, and Brie Larson lending her voice to Rosalina, further tying the film to the Galaxy-era of the games.
With new characters, a slightly earlier release date, and confirmation that the movie is deep into post-production, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated animated releases of the year for both longtime Nintendo fans and newcomers alike.
