OpenAI Launches ChatGPT Go Globally, Ads Testing to Begin Soon

OpenAI has officially expanded its low-cost ChatGPT Go subscription worldwide, making it available in every market where ChatGPT operates. The move follows the initial launch of ChatGPT Go in India in August last year, where it debuted at a price of INR 399 per month. Since then, the plan has steadily rolled out to more than 170 countries, and as of now, it is accessible globally, including in the United States.

With the global rollout complete, OpenAI is positioning ChatGPT Go as a more affordable entry point into its AI ecosystem. In the US, the ChatGPT Go plan is priced at $8 per month, significantly undercutting the $20-per-month ChatGPT Plus plan and the premium $200-per-month ChatGPT Pro tier. Users interested in comparing pricing, features, and availability across regions can check the official ChatGPT plans page specific to their country.

Alongside the global availability announcement, OpenAI has revealed plans to begin testing advertisements within ChatGPT in the coming weeks. The ad tests will initially roll out in the US and will be limited to logged-in adult users on the Free and Go tiers. Importantly, OpenAI has confirmed that its paid plans, including Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise, will remain completely ad-free.

According to OpenAI, ads shown in ChatGPT will not influence the AI’s responses. Sponsored content will be clearly separated from organic answers and will always be labeled to avoid confusion. The company also emphasized that user conversations will remain private and will not be shared with advertisers, reinforcing its stance on user trust and data protection.

During the testing phase, ads are expected to appear at the bottom of ChatGPT responses when there is a relevant sponsored product or service connected to the user’s query. OpenAI has shared example images demonstrating how these early ad formats may look, suggesting a non-intrusive placement that does not interrupt the main response. In some cases, users may also be able to ask follow-up questions directly related to an advertised product or service to help inform purchasing decisions.

OpenAI says the ad experience will evolve based on user feedback. The company stated that it will continuously refine how ads are displayed while maintaining its commitment to putting users first and preserving trust in the platform. By building its advertising system from the ground up, OpenAI aims to align ad incentives with what users expect from ChatGPT.

In a blog post, OpenAI explained that while subscriptions and enterprise offerings remain a strong part of its business, advertising will serve as an additional revenue stream to help make AI tools more accessible. The company reiterated that its long-term focus is on creating products that individuals and businesses find valuable enough to pay for, while also supporting a diverse revenue model where ads can play a supporting role.

With ChatGPT Go now available worldwide and ad testing on the horizon, OpenAI appears to be entering a new phase focused on broader accessibility and sustainable growth, while attempting to balance monetization with user experience and trust.
