Samsung Galaxy S26+ Misses Out on Display Upgrade

Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S26 series is shaping up to be more complicated than usual, and new reports suggest that the Galaxy S26+ may be the biggest victim of last-minute changes. According to insiders speaking to Korean publication The Elec, the Galaxy S26+ will reportedly miss out on a meaningful display upgrade, largely due to internal shifts in Samsung’s original plans.

The situation reportedly began when Samsung decided to cancel the Galaxy S26 Edge relatively late in the development cycle. The Edge model was replaced by the Galaxy S26+, but because development work on the Plus variant started much later than planned, Samsung has been forced to make compromises. One of the most notable compromises appears to be the display.

Initially, Samsung was said to be considering using a newly developed display panel—originally intended for the Galaxy S26 Edge—on the Galaxy S26+. However, that plan was ultimately dropped. With limited time left to source or finalize an alternative panel, Samsung reportedly chose the safest option available. As a result, the Galaxy S26+ is expected to use a display panel that is almost identical to the one found on the Galaxy S25+. The only notable change may be the use of new protective glass, rather than an entirely new display technology.

This decision stands in contrast to the standard Galaxy S26, which is expected to receive a noticeable display update. The base model will reportedly feature a 6.27-inch panel, up from the 6.16-inch display used on the Galaxy S25. While the size increase may seem modest on paper, it signals that Samsung is still pushing incremental upgrades—just not across the entire lineup.

There is also some speculation about what could have been. Last year, both the Galaxy S25+ and S25 Edge featured 6.7-inch displays. If the Galaxy S26 Edge had gone ahead as planned, it may have introduced either a larger panel or additional display enhancements that never made it into the final product lineup. With the Edge now canceled, those potential upgrades appear to have been shelved.

Beyond displays, The Elec report also sheds light on Samsung’s production priorities. The Galaxy S26 Ultra reportedly entered mass production as early as last month. This was partly because the Ultra was always intended to be the flagship model, but also because Samsung prioritized securing components for it ahead of the other variants.

Current production targets reportedly stand at 3.6 million units for the Galaxy S26 Ultra, 700,000 units for the standard Galaxy S26, and 600,000 units for the Galaxy S26+. These figures are not final, however. Samsung is expected to revisit and adjust its production strategy in February, with higher targets likely for the vanilla and Plus models and reduced emphasis on the Ultra.

As for the official launch, the Galaxy S26 series is expected to be unveiled on February 25. This would place the announcement about a month later than the Galaxy S25 series launch last year. Samsung has not yet confirmed the date, but all signs point to a slightly delayed reveal.

Overall, the Galaxy S26+ appears to be a transitional device—caught between canceled plans and tight development timelines. While it may still deliver a solid flagship experience, the lack of a major display upgrade could make it feel more like a refinement of the Galaxy S25+ rather than a true generational leap.
